    Description

New old time? Yup. Originally dug in a location which no longer exists, this old time fossil has a new look and face. And it’s the face which really matters. Or is it? From the Renault Formation, this amazing plate was impossible to prepare when it was found. The tools and expertise to prepare it just did not exist. The plate showed only the promising cup of the Aphelelcrinus sp. and nothing else. Thinking there was a plate to be had in the piece was sheer supposition. And more like wishful thinking. Until now. Now, using today’s tools, a really good preparer can show us what could not be shown before, i.e., our “old” crinoids. So, here is a new old crinoid plate. It’s huge. It’s solid. It’s widely populated—home to more than seven crinoids! And the matrix, it’s hard as marble. But it’s also home to some of the most remarkable specimens you will ever see, especially from the Renault. It holds the feature crinoid, the Aphelecrinus sp. (1), an Onychocrinus sp. (2), a Pachylocrinus sp. (3), a Taxocrinus sp. (4), a Dichocrinus sp. (5), a Phanocrinus sp. (6), and something we just can make out, an unidentified crinoid. The plate measures approximately 18” x 12 1/2” x 1 3/4” and weighs—get this—27 pounds. Free US shipping only.
