Gorgeous Periglyptocrinus crinoid from Ontario

Description

This is a dazzling 3D example of a very rare North American Ordovician crinoid. From the Bobcaygeon Fm. (Kikfieldian), this was collected from a vast crinoid kill that preserved several species of trilobites, crinoids and a new species of soft-tissue mirellamorph. Much of that material is in the Royal Ontarioo Museum's new Dawn of Life Gallery in Toronto, and is well worth the visit. This crinoid head did not need any preparation. It's gorgeous just as it is!
The crinoid calyx measures two inches from the base to the top.
