The Stamps
: Beautiful set of 2 stamps, plus a souvenir sheet, showing classic Portuguese and Indian
traditional clothing and local dances
.  The stamps honor the past 40 years of cordial relations and trade development between the two countries.  The stamps are (approx.) 40mm x 31mm in size, and the souvenir sheet is 125mm x 94mm.
Brief History
: Portugal and India had trade and economic ties dating back to a British-Portuguese Treaty in 1373, signed by Britain's King Edward II and King Ferdinand. The treaty ensured trade between the three countries, with Portugal administering three enclaves in India - Goa, Daman, and Diu.
India gained Independence from Great Britain in 1948, and demanded Portugal's three enclaves be returned.  Relations between the two countries declined.  In 1961, India took control of these enclaves again, after threats of war.  At the end of 1974, a new Democratic Government was elected in Portugal, and relations with India were normalized.  By mid-1975, embassies had been opened in both countries, there were visits by the Portuguese President and the Indian Prime Minister, and trade and economic development began to flourish for both countries.
