    Description

This fossil Phanocrinus bellulus dropped to its death in fine silt more than 350 million years ago in the Mississippian, when, what is now the middle United States, was tropical and much of it was submerged beneath a shallow sea. As it sank slowly into the silt, this crinoid started to come apart, such, that today, in its fossilized state, it appears shaken to the verge of disintegration before it was preserved. This disintegration emphasizes the animal’s various anatomical structures, especially its calyx and arms, where you can see the individuation of the columnar disks at the tips of its arms. This crinoid from the Bangor Formation is immortalized on a solid piece of matrix slab measuring approximately 4 3/4” x 2 7/8” x almost 7/8” and weighs 10.5 ounces. Free US shipping only.
